“The OC, has got tech”

Fourteen Orange County-based businesses have made Deloitte LLP’s annual ranking of the 500 most rapidly growing technology companies.

The 2013 Technology Fast 500 winners were selected based on percentage of revenue growth from fiscal years 2008 to 2012. They included businesses in technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology. The eligibility requirements include having operating revenues of at least $50,000 for fiscal year 2008 and at least $5 million for fiscal year 2012.

OneScreen Inc., a business-to-business digital video service based in Irvine, topped the group of O.C. businesses in the ranking, coming in at No. 105 with 1,615 percent growth. “I’m proud that OneScreen has been able to build and grow a technology company during some of the most challenging years in our economy’s history,” said OneScreen CEO Atul Patel.

Software companies once again made up the majority of this year’s list. They included Netwrix Corp. and Kareo Inc., both of Irvine, and Lexipol LLC of Aliso Viejo.

But sectors such as Internet (which includes social media, online advertising, search engine optimization and others) have started to grow in the ranking to match that of mainstays like biotech and pharma, according to Eric Openshaw, Deloitte’s U.S. technology, media and telecommunications leader and vice chairman. Included in these growing Internet fields were Local Splash of Costa Mesa and Local Corp. of Irvine.

“New technologies like cloud and software as a service are at the forefront of the exponential growth we are seeing in software companies,” said Openshaw. He explained that such services and cloud technologies allow software companies to spread outside of major tech hubs, since workers are no longer tethered to a physical workplace.
