ANAHEIM Disneyland Resort’s parks are starting this Halloween season earlier than ever before. And they are doing it on one of the spookiest days of the year – this Friday … the 13th.
Also, the first day will go longer than ever at Disneyland – which will stay open for a 13th hour, ending at 1 a.m. Saturday.
“Normally, I’d say it’s early. But the fact that it opens Friday the 13th, it sets the tone,” said Robin Trowbridge, show director for the Disneyland Resort.
Halloween Time will last a record 49 days this year, ending on Oct. 31. Merchandise went on sale in the summer well before Labor Day.
The Friday the 13th party will include a dance party with villains, including Maleficent and Capt. Hook, as well as a midnight fireworks show, “Villainy in the Sky.”
The Halloween season has become one of the most popular seasons at the parks, adorned with pumpkins and spooky, not gory, décor.
The concept started 13 years ago with the Haunted Mansion attraction taking on a “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme.
Most features are included with park admission, except for after-hours, trick-or-treat parties that require separate tickets starting later this month.
