Sept. 30, 2006: Disney’s 50th Anniversary Celebration concludes.

Oct. 1, 1960: Dixieland at Disneyland debuts on the Rivers of America in Frontierland. Six Dixieland bands draw 9,000 jazz fans to a musical procession of boats and rafts on the Rivers of America followed by concerts at locations throughout the park. This popular river revue plays for many years and features some of the top names in Dixieland jazz.

Oct. 1, 1971: The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida opens. This new venture in Disney outdoor entertainment is built upon the successful blueprint of Disneyland Park. Countless cast members in California contribute to the creation and opening of the Walt Disney World Resort.

Oct. 4, 1956: Disneyland welcomes its 5 millionth guest through the main gate — 4-year-old Debra Rutherford of Quincy, Wash.

Oct. 5, 1955: Disneyland Hotel opens as Orange County’s first major hotel, featuring 104 rooms. It is designated as the “Official Hotel of the Magic Kingdom.” The first hotel guests were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arnone of Inglewood.

Oct. 5, 2008: Miley Cyrus, star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,” celebrates her 16th birthday with a party at Disneyland. Tickets for the after-hours event cost $250.

Oct. 5, 2011: Apple co-founder and former chief executive Steve Jobs dies. Jobs, 56, was also a member of the Walt Disney Co. Board of Directors.
