Sign-ups for new Disney 10K open Tuesday

ANAHEIM – Disney is adding a second 10K race to its slate of popular runs at the Disneyland Resort with slots going on sale next week.

The 10K will be part of the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend on Jan. 16-19 that will also include a 5K run and kids’ events.

Slots, which go on sale Tuesday, usually fill up quickly: Last year’s Tinker Bell Half Marathon spaces sold out in one month.

About 10,000 spots are available for the Tinker Bell 10K, which will mostly go through Disney property, said Tony Morreale, a Disney Sports spokesman.

About 21,000 people participated in this year’s Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend, aimed at female runners but open to anyone.

The first local Disney 10K will traverse through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and city streets on Aug. 31 as part of the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend.

Nicole Abejon of Irvine ran her first half marathon in September. Now, she plans on doing both the 10K and half-marathon this coming Labor Day weekend and again for the Tinker Bell weekend in January.

“I can’t wait for both the Disneyland Race Weekend and the Tinkerbell Race weekend,” Abejon wrote
